Google to help avoid Ganesha immersion processions

Live updates on smartphones on immersion procession route

On the final day of Ganesh idol immersion, take the help of Google maps to avoid traffic snarls.

Hyderabad police had tied up with the web mapping service to help people to know everything about traffic arrangements and precise location of the main procession.

Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Anil Kumar said that to provide real-time traffic conditions, and route planning for commuters they have signed a memorandum of understanding with the Google Maps, Hyderabad earlier this month.

Google Maps will send notifications to all the smart phone users on Saturday night about traffic restrictions and diversion points put in place for Ganesh immersion on Sunday, Mr. Kumar said.

Parking alert

“It will also alert the smart phone users on Khairatabad bada Ganesh route and dedicated parking places provided for people who want to watch immersion at Hussain Sagar,” he said.

The Google maps will also provide live traffic updates on the immersion routes, he said.

“People can open Google Maps and check the traffic situation,” he said, adding that social media team of traffic police will post live traffic updates on their official Twitter handle and Facebook page.

Other traffic

No traffic other than the idols’ procession will be allowed to move on the above main procession route between 9 a.m. on Sunday and 8 a.m. on Monday.

Further, the Hyderabad traffic chief advised people going to Rajiv Gandhi International airport, Shamshabad and railway stations to avoid Necklace Road, NTR Marg, Tank Bund Road and main procession route as shown in the map.

The traffic chief said that vehicles other than those carrying Ganesh Idols will be diverted to adjoining routes of other tributary processions.

Facility to cross from the western part of the city to eastern parts or vice versa will be provided at Basheerbagh junction only.

Commuters are advised to use the Ring Road and Begumpet area to avoid diversions.

All the side roads leading to the main procession route will be barricaded.

Outside city

Heavy vehicles from outside Hyderabad will not allowed to enter the city on the intervening night of Sunday and Monday. “Their movement will be terminated on the outskirts of the city during the final day of Ganesh immersion process,” he said.

When the procession reaches its peak, RTC buses are also not allowed beyond Masab Tank, V.V.Statue, CTO, Plaza, SBH, Clock Tower, Chilkalguda x road, Ramanthapur T.V.Station, Gaddiannaram, Chaderghat, Danamma Huts, I.S.Sadan, YMCA Narayanaguda and Tarnaka — buses won't be allowed beyond Tarnaka Junction towards Jamia Osmania Flyover, Mr Kumar said.

Private buses should not enter the city from 10 a.m. on Sunday to 10 a.m on Monday, he added.
