Godavari reached second warning level at 6 p.m. at Bhadrachalam of Bhadradri Kothagudem district on Friday.

Godavari reached second warning level at 6 p.m. at Bhadrachalam of Bhadradri Kothagudem district on Friday.

As the Godavari river continued to flow close to the second flood warning level of 48 feet at Bhadrachalam on Friday night, the district administration has sounded a flood alert across the course of the river, opened a control room in Bhadrachalam and made arrangements to shift people living in flood prone areas in the division to relief camps.

A control room (08743-232444) has started functioning at the office of the Sub-Collector in the temple town.

The bathing ghats on the banks of the river in Bhadrachalam were flooded following heavy inflows into the river from the upstream areas.

Two boats exclusively meant for flood relief operations were kept ready on the banks of the Godavari to tackle any exigency.

Sources said the water level in the river is expected to rise by two to three feet in the next 12 hours.

The authorities have initiated flood control measures to pump out stagnated water from the low-lying areas in the town and elsewhere in the division and keep the essential commodities ready at the already identified relief camps across the Bhadrachalam Agency.

Meanwhile, Bhadrachalam Sub-Collector Bavesh Mishra monitored the preparatory arrangements to implement relief and rescue operations in the event of water level reaching the danger mark of 53 feet.

He also reviewed the flood control measures including the deployment of the personnel of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRP) in the flood prone areas.
