Post the continuous spell of rains that had pounded the city for the past one week, GHMC has initiated the exercise of pothole filling in order to make the severely battered roads motorable.

During the past one month, GHMC has counted a total of 3,606 potholes, while on Tuesday alone, 556 were identified in all the six zones. Of these, 134 have been immediately filled, and the remaining will be filled up by the next day, Chief Engineer (Maintenance) Mohammed Ziauddin informed.

Maximum number of potholes were found in Secunderabad zone, at 168, with Khairatabad following with 127. Serilingampally recorded 88, Charminar, 72, Kukatpally 53, and L.B.Nagar, 48.

Monsoon emergency teams numbering over 200 have been deployed on the job, besides restoring the roads on important stretches.

GHMC commissioner D.S. Lokesh Kumar has issued directions to the Engineering officials to plan and take up short term, medium term and long term road restoration works, in view of heavy damage. Accordingly, starting from November 1, special Instant Repair Teams will be constituted to take up pot hole filling and repair of roads, a statement from GHMC informed.

Since June this year, a total of 21,471 potholes have been filled up by GHMC’s monsoon teams, the statement said.
