The Pahadishareef police on Monday claimed to have solved the mystery behind the murder of a GHMC sweeper, Shaik Ali Baig reported last month with the arrest of three persons including his wife.
The victim, Baig had two wives and was living along with his second wife - Shaheda Begum (34) at Mailardevpally in Rajendranagar. His first wife had filed a dowry harassment case and a maintenance case against Baig and was living separately along with her children.
However, for a few weeks prior to his death, Baig was not attending his duties and was harassing Shaheda under the influence of liquor and ganja. On a few occasions, the man beat up his wife over trivial issue.
“Vexed with frequent violence, Shaheda planned to kill her husband. She also feared that Baig's first wife would take all the benefits if she wins the maintenance case,” Shamshabad ACP R. Sudershan said.
Shaheda roped in her niece Bushra Fatima (20) of Mailardevpally, who in turn sought the help of her cousin Mohammed Amjad (32), an auto driver from Pahadishareef. Shaheda promised to pay Rs.1 lakh to him if he killed Baig. On the night of September 16, Amjad picked up Baig from his house.
“The duo then headed to a wine shop in the auto rickshaw where Amjad bought a bottle of liquor and offered it to Baig. After the latter got heavily drunk, the former took him to an isolated place near Jalpally Tank and throw a boulder on him. Baig suffered serious injuries on chest and succumbed. Later, put the body in a gunny bag and abandoned it near the tank and went away,” the ACP said.
The next day when the police found the body and began investigation, Baig himself became a panch witness in the case. However, during investigation the police questioned Shaheda who admitted to her involvement in the murder and revealed the role of other two accused persons. The police produced the accused persons before the court which remanded them to judicial custody.
