Fourteen foreigners were detained by the Hyderabad police on Wednesday on charge of overstaying without Government permission.
They were from Sudan (5), Yemen (4), Somalia (2), Kenya (2) and Tanzania (1). These foreigners were caught following surprise inspections at Golconda, Humayunnagar, Asifnagar, Langerhouz, Banjara Hills, Jubilee Hills, Osmania University surrounding localities and Malakpet.
Fifteen teams of Hyderabad Police Commissioner’s Task Force teams inspected their houses. “After finding their visas and other travel documents, we found they were overstaying,” Task Force Deputy Commissioner of Police B. Limba Reddy said.
Student visa
Most of them came to India on student visa. House owners and others renting out their portions or providing accommodation to foreigners have to inform details of the foreigners to the local Foreigner Regional Registration Office (FRRO).
“They should create an account with the FRRO website and inform about the stay of foreigners in their house and furnish details online by filling C-Form module,” Mr. Reddy explained. This was mandatory, under section 7(3) and 7(4) of the Foreigners Act-1946.
Violation of the provisions of the Act was punishable with imprisonment. Further investigations in this regard are in progress.
