Justice A. Rajasheker Reddy of the Hyderabad High Court on Tuesday directed the Andhra Pradesh police to follow the directions given by the Supreme Court in the Lalitha Kumari case with regard to the complaint lodged by YSRCP MLA R. K. Roja.

The MLA had filed a writ petition, stating that the Penamaluru police of Krishna district had failed to register a case despite her complaint on July 14 accusing TDP MLA B. Prasad of abusing her at a press conference. She sought a direction to the police to file the First Information Report (FIR) based on her complaint.

After hearing P. Sudhakara Reddy, counsel for the petitioner, the judge directed the police to follow the apex court direction in the Lalitha Kumari case in the present complaint also. A five-judge constitution bench of the Supreme Court ruled in the Lalitha Kumari case that the police should file an FIR on the basis of a complaint or information about commission of a cognizable offence.
