‘Focus on works in fluoride-hit areas’

Works in Nalgonda district will be prioritised: K.T. Rama Rao

Telangana Minister for IT, Panchayat Raj and Rural Water Supply K.T. Rama Rao has directed the officials engaged in the execution of the drinking water grid project to prepare a schedule for commencing supply of water to people in a year’s time in the areas where the works get completed.

The schedule should comprise the details of works to be completed every six months after a year and the areas where the water supply could be commenced, the Minister told the officials at a review meeting held here on Tuesday.

He told the engineers to give priority to works in the fluoride-affected areas in Nalgonda district and drought-prone areas in Mahabubnagar district as the government’s intention was provide water supply in such areas first.

Engineer-in-Chief of RWS B. Surender Reddy explained to the Minister that the construction of almost all intake wells had reached a safe stage and it would enable completion of the works as scheduled.

The Minister enquired on the stage of work progress of intake wells, site-wise and directed the officials to speed up the works.

The Minister told the engineers to complete the segment-wise details planning reports by Sunday as the Water and Power Consultancy Services (India) Ltd – WAPCOS would scrutinise them. He asked the officials to complete arranging a special website for the drinking water project with all details about it.

Mr. Rama Rao stated that he would hold a review in a day or two on the issue of laying fibre optic cable along with the distribution pipeline network to every household for providing internet connection in future.

Meanwhile, the Irrigation Department gave its nod for preparing a detailed estimate for conducting survey operations, designs and estimate for raising the height of existing anicut of Dummugudem by 1 meter and study its effect on upside and downside of the river bed -- including submergence, for the purpose of water grid project.
