In the first ever major disciplinary action in the police department since the inception of Telangana state nearly three years ago, the Government on Thursday suspended five police officers, including an Additional Superintendent of Police, for their alleged connections with slain gangster Nayeemuddin.

Serious action is likely to be taken against four more officers and minor disciplinary proceedings like postponement of increment and censure are to be initiated against 16 other police officers ‘for their links’ with the gangster or his associates. The suspended officers were Crime Investigation Department (CID) Additional SP Maddipati Srinivas, Hyderabad Central Crime Station (CCS) Assistant Commissioner of Police Chintamaneni Srinivas, Mirchowk (Law and Order) ACP Malineni Srinivasa Rao, Sanga Reddy Traffic Inspector Mastan and Kothagudem Inspector Rajagopal.
