Five apprehended for conspiring to rob businessmen

The South Zone Task Force, along with Rein Bazaar police, apprehended five persons for allegedly planning dacoities and seized from their possession five daggers, a knuckleduster and two packets of chilli powder.

The accused have been identified as Mir Akber Ali (24), Syed Irfan Hussain (20), Mohammed Muzaffer (25), Mohd Rafi (21) and Mohd Abdul Hasan (28). The accused are unemployed and residents of different parts of the Old City.

The accused were allegedly planning to rob businessmen of the Old City and for three consecutive days, they converged at a location near the Yakutpura Railway Station late on Tuesday night waiting to waylay potential victims. Police said that the accused hit upon the idea to rob people after getting to know of some offenders waylaying a jewellery shop owner in the Shalibanda Police Station limits.

Acting on reliable information, the police late on Tuesday night cordoned off the area and apprehended the accused. According to the police, three of the accused are rowdy-sheeters and all are allegedly involved in assaults or property offences as well as illegal possession of arms.
