Farmhands hurt in accident

Twenty farm workers were injured, including four critically, after an overloaded vehicle overturned under its own weight at Jagannadhapuram cross near Wajedu on Wednesday.

The accident took place when the workers were on their way home to Bijapur district in Chhattisgarh.

The injured workers were rushed to Eturnagaram area hospital. They were working since the past few days as chilly pickers in farms in Besthagudem of Venkatapuram mandal.

The police said the vehicle was loaded beyond its capacity. Besides passengers, the vehicle was carrying 20 bags full of chilly on the top.

The driver was speeding on the highway and lost control of the vehicle while negotiation a turn.

The vehicle fell on to a side and skidded off the road.
