Narayanguda police cracked a fake robbery case within eight hours and apprehended a youth for allegedly concocting a story about two persons decamping with ₹2 lakh that he was carrying on Tuesday morning.
ACP-Abids G. Biksham Reddy said R. Gopi Prakash (23), manager of gas servicing store in Santhoshnagar, had given ₹2 lakh to the arrested youth, Mohammed Fayeemuddin (25), a gas stove mechanic and a resident of Yakatpura, instructing him to hand over the money to a Narayanguda resident, Krishna Reddy.
Fayeemuddin hatched a plan to appropriate the money and informed Mr. Prakash that two bike-borne men threatened him with a knife and fled with the amount, said police.
On being informed about it, Mr. Prakash rushed to the spot and looked for the two men, but in vain. He then approached the police, who registered a case and immediately launched an investigation.
While probing the case, Narayanaguda police analysed the video footage of surveillance cameras near the site of ‘robbery’ and concluded that Fayeemuddin had narrated a false story, said the ACP.
During interrogation, the accused confessed that he was overcome with greed and wanted to use the money to start his own gas stove repairing shop.
