The Legal Metrology Department has set up a facility to verify the purity of gold ornaments at its head office in Gandhinagar, Musheerabad. People can bring in the gold ornaments and get its purity tested.
The testing facility will soon be extended to the regional centres and the district offices of the department for the convenience of the people, said R.P. Thakur, Controller of Legal Metrology, at a press conference here on Sunday.
The department is also planning to intensify its raids on various commercial establishments to curb irregularities such as cheating, charging more than the printed MRP, cheating in purity of gold and under-weighing of the commodities.
Commercial establishments in the bus stations, railway stations, rythu bazaars, shopping complexes and markets would be covered during week long awareness programme ‘Measurements in Daily Life’ being held across the State from Monday, he said.
World Metrology Day today
May 20 is being observed as the World Metrology Day. A poster would be released on the occasion and pamphlets would be distributed to spread the awareness at different places, Mr. Thakur added.
