British Deputy High Commissioner to Telangana and Andhra Pradesh Andrew Fleming was trolled on Twitter for visiting a dargah in the city which he described, on Twitter, as ‘beautiful’.
A Twitter handle, Bharata Punnarutthana, called the diplomat an ‘external mole’ and accused him of promoting only dargahs. He questioned whether Deputy High Commissioner Fleming would promote ‘Hindu culture or rich heritage of temples’.
Responding, the diplomat described the tweet as hateful and misguided and said he stood for interfaith dialogue and inclusion.
“This is unquestionably the most hateful & misguided post I have received in India . Let me tell you sir or mam, I embrace all faiths & post about each. I am sure many inc. @HiHyderabad@NamrataSadhvani@nuts2406@RubarooHyd@rama_rajeswari can testify. #Interfaith & #Inclusion (sic),” he tweeted.
On Twitter, the social media-savvy diplomat, with a following of over 10,000, has expressed appreciation for the State’s cultural heritage, including its temples. Being part of several heritage walks in the city, he visited the Sitarama temple last month and posted photos and said he was ‘ blown away’ by its beauty. He also met Chinna Jeeyar Swamy and described it as a ‘deeply moving experience’.
In his unofficial capacity, he facilitated raising funds for installing amenities and infrastructure at the Government Unani Hospital in Charminar.
