A petrol bunk operator’s son was kidnapped while he was playing outside his house at Anjireddynagar, in Champapet on city outskirts, the police said on Monday.

Eight-year-old Sujeet Reddy stepped out around 5.30 p.m. and was seen playing with some boys on Sunday. Two hours later, his family members realized that he was missing. Even as they were searching the area for the boy and inquiring with neighbours, unidentified people rang up his father, Rajashekhar Reddy, around 8.20 p.m.

The callers demanded that Rs. Five lakh be paid to them to release the boy and hung up. The boy’s father operates a petrol bunk on contract basis. The kidnappers continued to make ransom calls till Monday morning.

All the calls were traced to different telephone coin boxes, in and around Saroornagar. Sujeet is a third standard student of a private school.
