Adibhatla police of Rachakonda Commissionerate on Thursday seized 100 kilos of ganja after arresting eight persons. Along with the ganja, Rs. 4,000, two four-wheelers and nine mobile phones were seized from the arrested, Rachakonda Commissioner Mahesh M. Bhagwat said. While seven of the accused were from Odisha, one was from Chhattisgarh. Their associate, Raju from Naraynkhed, is absconding.

The prime accused, G. Joginder, 40, and Devidas Pawar, 24, were earlier arrested by the East Godavari police in separate cases of smuggling ganja. They met in Rajahmandry prison after being remanded in judicial custody.

On release, they ganged up with six others hailing from Odisha and Chhattisgarh. They used to procure ganja and supply it to customers in Maharashtra. During a routine inspection, Vanasthalipuram Traffic Sub-Inspector D. Srinivas intercepted two four-wheelers. On checking the vehicles, he found eight persons travelling in them carrying ganja. He handed over them to the Adibhatla police who arrested them and seized ganja along with the vehicles.
