Edible oils company Gemini Edibles and Fats India Pvt Ltd (GEF India) will soon have a new plant in Kakinada with a capacity of 1,100 tonnes per day.
Speaking at the unveiling of the company’s Freedom Refined Sunflower Oil 1-litre stock keeping unit, GEF India managing director Pradeep Chowdhry said that the new plant is currently under construction and will be operational by March or April next year. “Apart from this, we are looking at two other projects in the future: one in Odisha and another in Tamil Nadu. This project, the one in Kakinada, is about ₹ 240 crore. We are looking at projects of similar size in Odisha and Tamil Nadu,” Mr. Chowdhry said.
GEF India, which is based in Hyderabad, is currently in talks with the Odisha government which, according to Mr. Chowdhry, has shown a keen interest in the project. The company is looking at the availability of manpower, power and water to set anchor in Odisha.
He said that Telangana, Odisha and Andhra Pradesh are the company’s main markets. The company has two existing port-based plants — one in Kakinada and the other in Krishnapatnam. It clocked a turnover of ₹4,000 crore in 2017-18.
