Lack of coordination between the Directorate of Medical Education and the Government has led to denial of posting to some senior doctors despite the availability of vacancies, while their few other colleagues got benefited.
What’s interesting is all of them got promotions on the same day but only a few were given postings and the left out doctors say they will lose seniority due to the lackadaisical attitude of the officials.
The issue is related to promotion of Associate Professors from Assistant Professors of General Medicine.
The Government issued orders of posting a few days ago to nine doctors out of the 13 approved by the Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC) though there were 19 vacancies available across the State on the day of orders.
“We don’t understand why we were left out when there are 10 more vacancies,” they say.
These doctors say the file related to DPC was accepted in October 2016 and the vacancy position was prepared in January this year.
However, on the day of issuing orders vacancies were 19. They say the Directorate of Medical Education blindly followed the vacancy position as in January rather than the vacancies on the day of posting, which is the normal practice.
The Directorate of Medical Education officials, the doctors claim, are now blaming the officials in the Secretariat saying that they have not requested for the latest vacancy position.
On the other hand, the Secretariat officials apparently say the onus of sending the latest vacancy position is with the DME and it is their fault.
After being denied posting along with their peers, these doctors will have to go through the DPC again competing with their juniors and also the entire process of promotion despite clearing the hurdles. “We don’t even know whether the Health Minister is aware of this goof-up, and want him to intervene and issue the posting orders”. The only option, they say, is to move court for justice.
