Increasing patient load and delay in organising a ceremonial inauguration forced the Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) to launch a dialysis centre on Monday.
The 20-machine centre aims to cater to the hospital’s increasing patient demand. However, delays owing to Health Minister C. Laxma Reddy’s schedule and a sudden surge in patient numbers due to a shutdown of a dialysis unit at ESI Hospital, forced the institute’s administration to start the dialysis centre.
The ESI Hospital in Sanathnagar decided to terminate the services of a private service provider in September, prompting patient protests. The hospital management told The Hindu in August that it plans to start a unit of its own and has the support of NIMS as a back-up option.
The NIMS unit is expected to cater to the ESI patients as well.
