In one of the biggest seizures by city police in recent times, demonetised currency notes — having a face value of ₹7 crore — were recovered from two persons here on Thursday.
Both the detained persons, Srinivas and Vishwanath, were working as production managers for different films. The duo was picked up from Jubilee Hills by sleuths of the Hyderabad Police Commissioner's Task Force (Central).
At their instance, banned currency notes of ₹500 and ₹1,000 denominations were seized. “We're interrogating the duo to ascertain from where they secured the demonetised currency notes,” a Task Force official unwilling to be named said.
Even after the deadline of March 30, 2017, for depositing demonetised currency notes, some persons and gangs continued to collect and possess the same.
In the present case, TF sleuths suspect tht Srinivas and Vishwanath had gathered the banned currency notes from different persons who almost gave up hopes of exchanging them.
On a tip-off, the TF Central Inspector Srinivasa Rao and his team caught the duo and seized the banned notes. As the seizure was made, a rumour was in circulation that the money was from the house of film actor-couple Jeevitha and Rajasekhar. But Ms. Jeevitha said they had no connection with the case.
