Criminals in the twin cities have found a unique way of making life difficult for police. Offenders residing in Hyderabad are increasingly committing offences in Cyberabad and those hailing from Cyberabad and border regions are committing crimes in Hyderabad. This is creating jurisdictional difficulties for the police, who are finding it increasingly frustrating to catch such criminals.
“We have realised this situation. Henceforth, traffic and crime management in the twin cities will be carried out in co-ordinated manner between Cyberabad and Hyderabad police. Criminals are trying to take advantage of our jurisdictional limitations and that’s why we will conduct common crime patrolling from now on,” said Cyberabad Commissioner C. V. Anand.
On Friday, the Cyberabad Commissioner held a meeting with Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Sandeep Shandilya to chalk out the modalities of information sharing between the two police commissionerates. To begin with, a Central Criminal Data Collection Centre (CCDCC) to store online interrogation reports, photographs and finger prints of criminals for both Hyderabad and Cyberabad is being set up.
“Our special investigating teams will meet alternative week and share information. Offenders are giving us false addresses and we will physically check these addresses and share the updates online. We will prepare common standard formats of police reports that will be easily filled by our personnel and shared,” Mr. Shandilya said.
The Cyberabad Commissioner also pointed out that there will be no competition. “We know that there is competition between individual police stations, which hampers information sharing. We will co-ordinate and I have already made it clear with my inspectors that intelligence sharing should be transparent,” Mr. Anand.
Co-ordinated combined search of border areas, uniform pattern of policing, ways to exchange information between Cyberabad and Hyderabad police, uniform formats for preventing crime and traffic management will be chalked out. “Very seen, we will meet Hyderabad Commissioner Mr. Mahendar Reddy to finalise these details,” Mr. Anand said.
