Internal differences came to the fore in the TRS when the ruling party’s municipal councillors moved no-confidence motion against the sitting municipal chairman Vadluri Vijaykumar in the Huzurabad municipality, which falls under the Huzurabad assembly segment represented by Minister for Finance and Civil Supplies Etala Rajender.
Out of a total of 20 councillors, 18 councillors signed a petition and submitted to Collector Sarfaraz Ahmad seeking no-confidence motion against the Municipal chairman, on Saturday night.
Vijaykumar was elected from 15 municipal ward in the elections on Congress party ticket and later joined the TRS and secured the municipal chairman post, which was quite unusual. Initially, the chairman moved closely with the councillors, but later differences cropped among them. The councillors informed the Minister about the issue of unilateral decisions of the chairman. However, the Minister, after much delay, instructed the municipal chairman through party leaders to submit his resignation to the Collector.
However, the municipal chairman refused to resign till the inauguration of shopping complex constructed in the Huzurabad town. Irked over the adamant attitude of the chairman, the Minister instructed the rebel councillors to submit a petition seeking no-confidence motion against the chairman. Accordingly, the councillors visited the Karimnagar town and submitted memorandum to Collector.
Vemulawada trust vote
On the other hand, Rajanna-Sircilla Collector D. Krishna Bhaskar had decided to convene a special meeting on August 7 to test no-confidence motion against Vemulawada municipal chairperson Namala Uma in Vemulawada.
It may be recalled that out of a total of 20 councillors, 15 councillors, including five each from TRS and the Congress, four from BJP and one independent, had submitted memorandum to DRO Shyam Prasad Lal in Siriclla on July 9 seeking no-confidence motion against the municipal chairperson.
The Collector, after examining the petition, decided to convene the meeting on August 7.
Ms Uma was elected on BJP ticket and became the chairperson in 2014 after shifting loyalty to the TRS. Of the total of 20 councillors, the BJP has nine, Congress and TRS have three each and five independents. The councillors alleged that the chairperson Uma’s husband Namala Laxmirajam was interfering in the municipal official works and policy and not allowing them to take any decision.
It is learnt that the municipal vice-chairman Prathap Ramakrishna of BJP was playing a key role in moving the no-confidence motion against chairperson.
