Congress Loyalists Forum urges Sonia to ‘save the situation’

The Congress Loyalists Forum (CLF) comprising of senior leaders have urged Sonia Gandhi, Leader of the Congress Parliamentary Party, to take control of the situation in the aftermath of Rahul Gandhi’s resignation as the Congress president.

In a letter written to Ms. Sonia Gandhi, they said that an interim Congress president should be placed to instil confidence among party workers, and the forum felt that Ms. Sonia Gandhi is the ‘saviour of the situation.’

The forum consisting of Marri Shashidhar Reddy, V. Hanumanth Rao, M. Kodanda Reddy, S. Chandrasekhar, B. Kamalkar Rao, A. Shyam Mohan and G. Niranjan said Mr. Rahul Gandhi’s resignation has demoralised the rank and file and his reluctance to relent on his decision has created a vacuum in the organisational structure for too long, giving ammunition to the political adversaries.

The spate of desertions from the party had its own impact as well, they said.

The forum said that people of Telangana were able to realise their long cherished dream for a separate State only because of Ms. Gandhi’s magnanimous and statesmanly decision but unfortunately theTRS capitalised on it.

The party also failed to capitalise on the failures of TRS government due to gross mismanagement of the process of electioneering at the State-level.

Though the party won three Lok Sabha seats subsequently, it is no consolation as the space was lost to the BJP that won four seats after having lost deposit in over 100 Assembly seats in December 2018, they said.
