Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao has directed the officials to complete all the irrigation projects taken up in the State within two years and provide irrigation facility to one crore acres.
There should be no lethargy or negligence anywhere and work should be completed on a war-footing, he said.
Mr. Chandrasekhar Rao held a seven-hour detailed review at Pragathi Bhavan here on Saturday on the progress of ongoing irrigation projects in the State. Taking a serious view of slow progress of the Sitarama and Sriram Sagar rejuvenation project and Devadula, he said the matter should be taken up with the work agencies and officers concerned and work should be completed at the earliest. He decided to visit all the work sites to examine the construction work.
The Chief Minister will visit Medigadda, Sundilla, and Annaram barrages and pump houses under the Kaleshwaram project on Tuesday and will inspect works taken up under SRSP rejuvenation projects another day.
He said water should be made available under the Kaleshwaram project that would provide water to majority areas in Telangana by next June and July and the works should be speeded up. The delay in Kaleshwaram project work would not be tolerated under any circumstances, he said.
He directed the Finance Department to release funds to compensate for land acquisition for irrigation projects. He said ₹80 crore should be released for payments to those displaced by Gandhamalla and Baswapuram reservoirs.
Mr. Chandrasekhar Rao said under the SRSP rejuvenation project, water availability in the flood canal would be more and water should be extended to all tanks from the flood flow canal through off-take channels.
The review meeting was attended, among others, by Minister Mahmood Ali, Chief Secretary S. K. Joshi, Finance Secretary Ramakrishna Rao, and Irrigation Engineer-in-Chief Muralidhar.
New proposals
The Chief Minister also directed the officials to prepare proposals for taking up two lift irrigation projects for Singur to irrigate one lakh acres each in Narayankhed and Jaheerabad constituencies. Water should be provided to Jukkal constituency by strengthening Kaulas nala and completing Nagamadugu work.
He said that ₹11,000 crore was mobilised for Sitarama Lift Irrigation scheme and no more delay should take place in the works.
Another extensive review of Palamuru-Ranga Reddy, Sitarama and Devadula projects would be taken up soon, he said.
