City observes Shab-e-barat

Muslims around the city observed Shab-e-barat or the ‘night of deliverance’ on Tuesday night, the 15{+t}{+h}day of the Islamic month of Shabaan .

To mark the occasion, special prayers and sermons were held at mosques in the city.

The event commemorates the Prophet’s entry to the holy city of Mecca and Muslims around the world revere the night as a day of atonement.

People turned up in large numbers to offer prayers at the historic Mecca Masjid, Jamia Masjid - Musheerabad, Vazir Ali Mosque - Fateh Darwaza, Jamia Masjid Jafaria - Sanathnagar, Azizia Masjid - Mehdipatnam and Jamia Masjid - Mahboob Chowk.

Religious meetings were held at Milad Grounds - Khilwat, Moghalpura playground and Qutb Shah Stadium, where eminent religious scholars addressed the gatherings. Many visited the graveyards and remembered their dear ones.

Officials of the GHMC and Wakf Board cleaned up graveyards ahead of the occasion. Police made elaborate security arrangements. Wild vegetation and garbage was removed from these places. Senior officials of the GHMC supervised the works.

Meanwhile, the police made elaborate arrangements to prevent any untoward incident. Police pickets were posted at all mosques and shrines and in sensitive areas of the city.
