The officials of Women and Child Welfare Department on Thursday rescued a girl from Marx Nagar here, who was all set to get married.
According to the officials, the marriage of a 12-year-old girl was planned with her uncle who is already married and has no children. The mother of the girl reportedly made all arrangements and thanks to a last minute tip-off, the officials rushed to the spot, stopped the marriage and shifted the girl to Bala Sadan.
Even the Aadhaar card obtained by the officials proved that the girl was minor.
“I did not know when the marriage will be performed. But they planned the marriage with my uncle as he has no children from the first marriage,” the girl told The Hindu .
She did not know what to do as she had never been to school.
Parents and relatives of the girl stayed before Bala Sadan for several hours urging the officials to release the girl, but the authorities decided to keep the girl at the rescue home.
