CEO shied away from giving details: Shashidhar

Chairman of the Election Commission Coordination Committee of the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) M. Shashidhar Reddy has ridiculed Chief Electoral Officer of Telangana Rajat Kumar for sending the ‘most urgent’ letter on May 7 after they gave a representation on May 1, but which reached them on May 13.

Mr. Reddy and other Congress leaders had represented to the CEO, seeking votes polled till 5 pm to study the polling pattern in four Lok Sabha constituencies — Nizamabad, Secunderabad, Khammam and Chevella. The team had requested for polling station-wise votes polled up to 5 pm.

Mr. Reddy, who wrote to the CEO, however, alleged that the latter had shied away from making the details available. The CEO had “misled” them, by saying that the RO would report “provisional’ figures though there was no such provision in the Handbook for returning and presiding officers, he said.

He asked the CEO whether the Returning Officers of all the 17 constituencies gave a declaration that the figures given were provisional. “You have sent us the station-wise polling figures as received from ROs but we now request you to send the ROs’ copies of the polling figures of each station up to 5 pm in all the four constituencies,” he said.
