The newly-appointed special officers of gram panchayats should visit villages and build a good rapport with the residents to identify their problems and address them, said Panchayat Raj Principal Secretary Vikas Raj, addressing the special officers at a one-day orientation programme here on Wednesday.
He said they should focus more on ensuring total sanitation and drinking water to every household. “Go around hospitals, schools and Anganwadi centres and inspect if the premises are clean,” he added.
The special officers were asked to accord priority to identifying vacant land for graveyard and focus on construction of compound walls. They were instructed to go door to door and ensure that every household gets drinking water through Mission Bhagiratha, the work on which is nearing completion.
Rural Development Commissioner Neetu Prasad said the recent amendment to the Panchayat Raj Act enables all-round development of villages. The special officers should make use of the resources and commit themselves to the cause of people to realise the dream of Bangaru Telangana. “Each of you should take a pledge to turn your respective panchayat a model one,” she said.
Warangal Rural District Collector M. Haritha said the gram panchayats would get funds directly under the 14th plan.
Special Commissioner Aasha, Zilla Parishad Chief Executive Officer Vijay Gopal and others were present.
