‘Brand awareness key to combating counterfeits’

A brand protection awareness workshop was conducted here on Thursday by the Authentication Solution Providers’ Association (ASPA) a self-regulated, non-profit organisation that represents the authentication solutions industry globally.

The workshop is part of the measures the association is taking to develop and strengthen the industry’s capacity to combat product counterfeits through evidence-based research, education and outreach. In a press release, ASPA president U.K. Gupta said the key to combating the counterfeit menace is awareness. ASPA, which is running the ‘Make Sure India’ campaign for over two years now, is keen on educating brand owners and consumers about the issue. It had recently launched a workshop series for professionals involved in tax revenues, supply chain management, quality and product packaging to provide them information on importance of authentication solutions in fighting fakes.

“Our industry can help government and brands in plugging these loopholes. A brand owner that employs an authentication solution is likely to increase his business by cutting down the counterfeiter’s share. This increased business will consequently bring in more revenue to the exchequer in form of higher collection of taxes and duties,” he said.
