Bharatiya Janata Party leaders petitioned the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) to conduct an enquiry into the revised voters’ list before the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation elections. The petition signed by five BJP leaders, blamed the State government for deleting almost 1 lakh names from BJP and TDP represented constituencies off the voters’ list.
The BJP had earlier given representation to the CEC opposing revision of voters’ list as it had apprehensions about “deletion of targeted voters”. The party leaders informed the Commissioner of alleged deletion of 6.7 lakh voter names. In some constituencies even voters who died were included in the new list, the petition pointed out. Even names of some BJP counsellors and ex-counsellors were missing from the list, the petition read.
“Over one lakh voters were deleted in constituencies where BJP and TDP represent. Only 315 names were deleted in constituencies represented by parties including MIM,” the letter read. Apart from this, the letter alleged that Booth Level Officers (BLO) and Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AERO) had not done thorough field work while compiling the new list.
