Terming the Telangana Government and the Union Government as natural allies in suppressing the farmers, Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president N. Uttam Kumar Reddy compared the death of six farmers in Madhya Pradesh during an agitation seeking remunerative prices for their produce to the handcuffing of farmers in Telangana in a similar agitation.

Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, Mr. Uttam Kumar Reddy blamed the wrong policies of the BJP government for the ongoing agrarian crisis across the country, including Telangana State. “The TRS government is a perfect ally of the BJP in terms of pursuing anti-farmer policies,” he said adding that images of handcuffing of farmers would remain fresh in the memories of Telangana people.

Agrarian crisis

He said agriculture sector was in a complete state of neglect, especially in Telangana where thousands of farmers lost their crops due to spurious seeds and fertilizers but did not get any compensation and instead were humiliated.

Speaking about Fasal Bima Yojna, he said during Kharif 2016, as against the premium of ₹17,184 crore, farmers got only ₹6,808 crore for the damages that they incurred. Not a single farmer in Telangana benefitted from the scheme while private companies earned ₹10,376 crore due to the Central scheme.

The TPCC chief said that the conditions for farmers have turned worse during Modi and KCR regimes and expressed confidence that Congress party was all set to come to power in 2019 elections and completely resolve the agrarian crisis.

He said besides waiving off crop loans up to ₹2 lakh, the Congress government would provide bonus on all crops in addition to the MSP provided by the Centre.

Miyapur land scam

Mr. Reddy reiterated the Congress party's demand for a CBI probe into Miyapur land scam and alleged that the TRS government was trying to hush it up. the land scam as it did with Vote for Note, EAMCET-2 paper leakage, Nayeem gang and other cases. He said that the officials of Chief Minister's Office too were suspected to be involved so the Government should come forward and call for a CBI probe.
