BJP siding with perpetrators of lynching: Owaisi

PM only speaks of one religion, alleges AIMIM president

All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) president Asaduddin Owaisi on Wednesday claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi speaks only about ‘one religion’ and alleged that BJP is ‘siding with those responsible for lynching’.

Mr. Owaisi was speaking to the media and reacting to the Prime Minister’s comments reportedly made at an event in Mathura.

“It is painful and unfortunate that the Prime Minister, who has taken oath on Constitution, talks only about one religion. We were hoping he would talk about all religions. We would like to know how many instances of lynching in the name of cow have taken place after he became the Prime Minister,” Mr. Owaisi said.

While the Hyderabad MP did admit that while the PM did speak against instances of lynching, these anti-social acts have not come to an end.

“There is no effect because your government, and your state governments, instead of giving victims justice, are siding with the perpetrators. The latest example is that of Tabrez Ansari in Jharkhand in which Section 302 is not being invoked.”

Mr. Owaisi claimed that his speech was made keeping the Maharashtra, Haryana and Jharkhand Assembly elections in mind. He charged the PM with speaking only about one religion. “It is painful and unfortunate that the PM has taken his oath on the Constitution. We were hoping that he would talk about all faiths,” he said.
