Bishop’s death: woman picked up for questioning

Police are suspecting that retired bishop B.S. Devamani, who was found dead in his house at Umanagar of Kundanbagh in Punjagutta on April 22, was beaten to death with a blunt object.

The Punjagutta police picked up a woman Madhavi (19), hailing from Nekkonda mandal of Warangal district in this connection and were interrogating her. Madhavi was reportedly brought to city to work in the retired bishop’s house a few days before his death.

Devamani’s body was found in decomposed condition in his house after neighbours got the doors forcibly opened as foul smell emanated from the house on April 22. The autopsy report and the disappearance of Madhavi raised suspicions about possible foul play behind the sexagenarian’s death.

Madhavi and her family members were known to the bishop since he had worked as bishop in a church at Dornakal in Warangal district. Autopsy report indicated that the victim was hit on his head with a blunt object.

“Madhavi’s conflicting versions raise doubts over her role in the bishop’s death. She is being questioned,” the police said.
