Officials of Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) conducted a raid on Ms. Pochamma Foods & Beverages at Pedda Amberpet, Hayathnagar mandal, in Ranga Reddy district, for manufacturing packaged drinking water with spurious BIS standard ‘ISI’ marking without valid license.

A large quantity of goods including water sachets and 20-litre pet bottles with fake and non-existing license numbers with spurious brand name ‘Pmin’ were seized.

In a press release, BIS Head & Scientist Ameer-uz-Zaman informed that action was initiated against the firm under the BIS Act 2016, with the offence attracting a penalty of up to ₹5 lakh or up to two years imprisonment or both under Section 29 of the Act. Urging the general public to be aware of such fake BIS marked products, he said the license is given to manufacturers only after a thorough scrutiny of their manufacturing and testing facilities as also hygiene at the plant.

While pointing out that consumption of uncertified and untested water is harmful to health, the BIS chief requested citizens to inform the office of any such fake units by calling on phones: 27243339/2249993 or mail to hbo@bis.gov.in.
