A biker and his pillion were crushed to death by a lorry after they attempted to evade a traffic check at Langar Hauz. The truck driver was arrested for causing the death.

According to S. Raghunath, Additional Inspector, Langar Hauz police station, vehicles coming from Gandipet were being checked by traffic police for drunk driving at Bapughat. A speeding lorry that was coming towards the check post hit a car and a police crane. Meanwhile, a two-wheeler rider, upon noting the check post ahead, turned back and rode on the wrong side at a high speed to evade checking. The motorist and his pillion were hit by the lorry and carried under its wheels due to high speed.

The rider, 24-year-old Gunti Rajesh, died immediately while pillion rider Srinivas was taken to a hospital where he succumbed to the injuries. “The lorry driver was heavily drunk and was speeding. He said he wanted to reach a hotel before it closed to have food. He was nabbed and booked,” said the inspector.

The police registered a case under Section 304 A for causing death due to negligence against the lorry driver Anantiah.
