Award for GHMC

The GHMC on Wednesday announced that it has bagged the ‘best capital city’ honour for solid waste management in the ‘Swachh Survekshan’ awards announced by the Union Ministry of Urban Development and Housing.

The civic body claimed it got the award for eliminating garbage vulnerable points (1116), taking up campaign for waste segregation, establishment of dry resource centres, building of ‘SHE’ toilets (15 installed and 100 in the pipeline), persuading hotels (323) and fuel filling stations (265) to allow public to use toilets, etc.

The move to set up construction and demolition waste processing plants to manage demolition at Jeedimetla and Fatullaguda too has gained momentum, with the file forwarded for approval of the government, a press release said.

Gift packs for Muslims

GHMC has stated it will distribute two lakhs gift packs to Muslims in the 150 divisions in coordination with corporators and deputy commissioners with each of the corporator assigned two mosques under his/ her jurisdiction.

Mayor B. Rammohan, Deputy Mayor Fasiuddin, GHMC Commissioner B. Janardhan Reddy and Government advisor for minority affairs A.K. Khan held a meeting with the corporators where the demand for additional vehicles for transporting garbage, more street lights and temporary lights near the mosques has been accepted, the release added.
