Arrested for attempting to dupe Korutla Municipal Commissioner

R. Surya Prakash Chary, who tried to knock off Rs. 30,000 from Municipal Commissioner of Korutla municipality in Karimnagar, claiming to be from the Telangana Chief Minister’s Office, was arrested by the city police on Friday.

The 35-year-old accused was earlier arrested in several cases of cheating and extortion, Additional Commissioner of Crimes, Swati Lakra, said in a press release. Chary worked for two Telugu dailies and a weekly earlier.

He was sacked by the respective managements for his objectionable behaviour.

He would go to hospitals, schools and government officials and demand money, maintaining that the media was conducting some programmes.

A few days ago, he called up Korutla Municipal Commissioner A. Vani Reddy, congratulating her ‘for being selected as best officer of the district’.

Ms. Vani grew suspicious when he asked her to deposit Rs. 35,000 in a specific bank account towards expenses of her felicitation programme.

Based on her complaint, the Hyderabad Central Crime Station registered a case and nabbed Chary.

Salon owner held

In another case, a hair salon owner Mohd. Ibrahim, 42, was arrested for allegedly sending obscene messages and videos to a woman.

He somehow got the woman’s mobile phone number through a friend and started sending vulgar content despite requests from her not to do so.
