APP held on cheating, theft charges

The Begumpet police of Hyderabad on Monday arrested the Additional Public Prosecutor of Family court in Vijayawada, Bharathi, and her friend, Sravanthi, on charges of cheating and theft here.

They were produced before a local court and remanded in judicial custody. Begumpet Inspector Y. Narsimha Reddy said that a criminal case under sections 420 (cheating) and 382 (stealing after preparing to hurt or restraint somebody) of Indian Penal Code against the two women on December 1.

A graphic designer, Shankar Reddy, living in Airlines Colony had approached the police on November 30, alleging that the APP had demanded money to settle a court case he was facing with his wife in Vijayawada family court. According to the Inspector, the complainant charged that the APP demanded money to settle his case and came to Hyderabad to discuss the matter.

The graphic designer maintained that Ms. Bharathi and Ms. Sravanthi came to his office in Airlines Colony and sought the payment. “When he refused to do so, they forcibly took away a desktop computer from his office,” the Inspector said.
