Apologise to farmers: BJP

May 12, 2017 11:08 pm | Updated 11:08 pm IST - HYDERABAD

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) TS president K. Laxman on Friday demanded that the government tender an unqualified apology to farmers across the State for putting handcuffs on chilli farmers arrested in Khammam when they were produced in the court.

“Is this the manner in which farmers are treated in this State? Is it fair to arrest them and parade them as criminals for agitating for a good price for their produce?” he wondered at a press conference. The BJP leader condemned the incident and said the entire society should hang heads in shame for the treatment meted out to the farmers by the government. Kisan Morcha of the party was with the farmers in their struggle, he mentioned.

Mr. Laxman also flayed the government for the alarming rise in maternal deaths in government hospitals and asked why a single review meeting at the top level was not held till date. “The TRS government has failed to upgrade or improve services in public hospitals. The fact that the Koti Maternity Hospital does not have an ICU speaks volumes of this government’s commitment to healthcare to the poor,” he charged.

He also demanded a white paper to be released on the funds received from the Centre to each department, matching grant of the State and how much was spent.

Amit Shah visit

BJP national president Amit Shah will be in Telangana for a much-awaited interaction with party functionaries and others during his three-day whirlwind tour from May 22 to 24. Mr. Shah will be touring Nalgonda district extensively where he will hold meetings with booth-level committees, villagers and various social groups. A significant event would be having a booth-level meeting of Hyderabad Lok Sabha constituency.

“Our party prospects are bright in TS and our party president’s visit would further strengthen our base while preparing a road map for the 2019 elections. We are ready for elections any time and are confident of doing well. We have the support of poor Muslims,” said Dr. Laxman.

As part of the Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhaya birth anniversary celebrations, the party activists would be extensively moving in the villages to highlight people’s problems besides propagating the party’s ideology from May 28 to June 15.
