The Metro Rail construction schedule will be witnessing another significant high point when the first girder launcher will start functioning on the second stage of the project i.e. between Miyapur and S.R.Nagar, a 12-km stretch.

It will be positioned at a site near the Kukatpally arch in a few days.

Corridor-I

The stage is part of the corridor-I between Miyapur and L.B.Nagar for a total length of 29 km with 27 proposed elevated stations en route.

Once the launch girder is assembled in place atop the installed piers, the segments will be brought to the site by trailers before being mounted one by one.

Cables

Once the segments are in place they will be bound together by cables and glued so that the viaduct is in place for the rails to be laid.

The launch girders are first assembled and simulated at the workshop in Qutbullapur before they are dismantled and again put together at the project site.

L&T Metro Hyderabad, the concessionaire building the project, has plans to form the viaduct from the site to Miyapur to begin with since most of the piers (350) on the way are up with barricading all along the centre of the road.

Viaduct

Once the first launch girder is up and begins to function fully, a second launch girder too is to be installed on the chosen route to speed up the process of forming the viaduct by putting the segments in place. Work on the piers for the first station on this route at Kukatpally Housing Board too has begun.

Three more soon

Hyderabad Metro Rail Managing Director N.V.S. Reddy has said that three more launch girders will be ready soon.

These will be in addition to the six launch girders working on the stage one of the construction schedule between Nagole and Mettuguda where the viaduct formation is rapidly getting formed. Stage one forms part of Corridor-3 from Nagole to Shilparamam.
