The Central team on swine flu felt that the spread of the virus was directly related to night temperatures, said Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences Director L. Narendranath, who is also the official spokesman of Telangana government on swine flu.

Addressing the media, he said the virus had peaked when the temperatures were 9 or 10 degrees, but there was less probability at 17 degrees now. He said 249 persons tested positive this month.

The administration in Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy, where 90 per cent of the cases were reported, has geared up to meet the threat by deploying 24 vehicles with two doctors and an auxiliary nurse each to go round vulnerable areas.

Commercial Taxes Minister T. Srinivas Yadav, after reviewing the situation with GHMC Commissioner Somesh Kumar, said 370 blood samples were collected on Friday, of which 116 tested positive.

Of the 139 samples tested by the Institute of Preventive Medicine (IPM) on Friday, 50 samples were found positive. The IPM has so far tested 894 samples this month, of which 299 have turned out to be positive. With Gandhi Hospital filled to the brim with swine flu patients, the hospital authorities have shifted 10 swine flu patients to Fever Hospital, Nallakunta.
