Days after Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao announced a toll free number to receive complaints of corruption by government staff, Telangana Anti-Corruption Bureau Director General A.K. Khan visited the Aarogyasri Call Centre functional at Koti to enquire about the nature of calls.
In the last four days, the Centre has received a whopping 10,750 calls from different parts of Telangana. Mr. Khan interacted with the staff and elicited information about the calls.
K. Shashi Sri, general manager 104 Sevakendram, told the ACB chief that of the complaints received so far, 499 pertained to allegations of corruption and receiving money. Initially, the call centre was catering to calls pertaining to general health.
After the Chief Minister’s announcement in Warangal, the call centre started taking other grievances also. “In the last 72 hours, complaints pertaining to other departments have also being attended to. There is a flood of calls about corruption in the issuance of pensions, ration cards, housing loans and civil supplies department,” Ms. Shashi Sri said.
Mr. Khan, after the meeting, told reporters that of the 499 calls relating to corruption, 82 were received from Nalgonda, followed by Warangal (61), Mahabubnagar (60), Khammam (52), Ranga Reddy (59), Medak (45), Karimnagar (48), Hyderabad (38) and Adilabad (22). He said all complaints that are accompanied by evidence would be inquired into.
