Activists of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) staged dharnas across Telangana on Wednesday against the ‘anti-student’ policies of the government and its failure to release scholarship amounts and also enhancement of scholarships.
ABVP Telangana State Secretary L. Ayyappa said the government is yet to release ₹1,168 crore pending fee reimbursement dues and students were suffering due to the delay. It hardly talks about students and their problems, he said.
He added that students and youngsters were also worried that the promise made by Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao on filling 1.08 lakh vacant posts was yet to fulfilled. There were diverse statements on the job vacancies and the government intentions were very clear that they would not recruit now, he alleged.
The activists also wanted enhancement of scholarship amount to ₹2,000 per month on the basis of rising prices. “When MLAs and government officials can increase their salaries why can’t the same yardstick be adopted for students,” Mr. Ayyappa asked.
