The Road Transport Authority (RTA) in association with Telangana Recognised Schools Management Association (TRSMA), Karimnagar district unit, organised a road safety awareness programme for school bus drivers here on Friday.
In-charge Deputy Transport Commissioner Chandrashekhar Goud spoke of various safety norms to be followed by school managements and school bus drivers while operating the buses. He asked the managements to ensure that the school buses have a list of students that they carry every day and their alighting points. The managements were told to appoint an attender in the school bus for ensuring safe boarding and alighting of students. The schools were also instructed to create adequate parking spaces on their school premises for the buses. Mr. Goud said school managements should display the name of the school along with its address and telephone number on the bus. The bus driver’s age should not be more than 60 years and the management should conduct health check-ups of the driver every three months. It also should keep a complaint book in the school bus and the school correspondent or principal should check it regularly for any complaints and take corrective measures accordingly.
On the occasion, the drivers were also informed to undergo refresher courses conducted by the RTA Department during summer vacation for upgradation of their driving skills.
Motor Vehicle Inspector Srinivas, Assistant MVI Sri Rajani, TRSMA State secretary Y. Shekhar Rao, district president K. Sanjeeva Reddy, State vice-president Ramkrishna Reddy and others participated in the event.
