In pursuit of a rewarding as well as a challenging career path, scores of candidates from across the erstwhile undivided Khammam district appeared for the test conducted by the Northern Power Distribution Company of Telangana Limited (TSNPDCL) as part of the ongoing recruitment drive to fill around 365 posts of junior lineman (JLM) in Khammam circle.
Candidates who have qualified in the written test conducted by the TSNPDCL earlier this year turned up at the TSNPDCL Superintending Engineer’s office here to take the test, which requires them to climb up and down eight-meter tall poles and aims to assess their climbing potential, physical stamina and endurance that the job demands.
Field staff
The JLM positions form part of the crucial field staff of the TSNPDCL mainly responsible for the maintenance of electricity poles encompassing the overhead power lines, the major components of the power transmission and distribution network, sources said.
Setting their sights high, the young job aspirants climbed the concrete poles barefoot with safety belts tied around their waists.
Thanks to their rigorous practice, many of them scaled and climbed down the concrete poles within the stipulated time.
“I practised climbing at a park near my house over the past few weeks to get through the challenging test,” said Murali, an ITI diploma-holder in electrical trade from Manuguru town here.
The job offers challenging opportunities to prove technical competencies in ensuring uninterrupted power supply to consumers, he noted, saying, above all, it gives a sense of satisfaction in serving the electricity needs of people.
“My ambition is to join a reputed organisation to harness the technical knowledge for further strengthening the power distribution system,” said Abdul Musabbir, another ITI diploma-holder from Kothagudem.
Physical endurance and mental agility are the basic prerequisites to effectively perform the job of junior lineman, opined Kilaru Nageswara Rao, Line Inspector, TSNPDCL, Khammam.
The position offers bright opportunities for youth to scale new heights in their career path and realise their full potential, said Mr. Rao, who designed a mobile application ‘Google Electrical Map’ a few years ago to help linemen speedily locate the faulty lines and carry out the repairs in a safe and hassle-free manner.
The pole climbing test would continue till June 21, said Rama Rao, the DE (Technical), TSNPDCL, Khammam.
In all, 45 candidates appeared for the test on Wednesday.
