Three cops named in criminal case

February 11, 2017 11:40 pm | Updated 11:41 pm IST - HYDERABAD:

Meerpet police of the Rachakonda commissionerate on Saturday registered a criminal case against four persons, including three police officers, following a complaint made by a real estate businessman.

Already, in January, Rachakonda Commissioner Mahesh Bhagwath had suspended Saidulu and Narsing Rathode, Sub-Inspectors of Pahadisharieff and Balapur police stations respectively, in this case. Names of these two SIs, along with ACP (Crimes) Ramulu Naik, figured in the First Information Report filed by the Meerpet police. The fourth accused in the case was B. Jeevan Prasad, allegedly at the behest of whom the three police officers had tortured M. Santosh Reddy, the complainant in the case.

On learning about the alleged torture of Mr. Santosh Reddy, the Commissioner had suspended the SIs while a report recommending suspension of the ACP was sent to higher-ups. Meanwhile, Mr. Naik was transferred.

Citing inaction by the police, Mr. Reddy had filed petitioned the State Human Right Commission and the High Court. The SHRC had suggested that Mr. Reddy lodge a complaint with the Meerpet police. The petition had come up for hearing at the High Court and was posted to February 16.

Meanwhile, Mr. Reddy sent a complaint to the Meerpet police through registered post. “A case under Sections 324, 290, 384 and 506 (read with Sec. 34) of the Indian Penal Code was registered against the three police officers and Jeevan Prasad,” said Inspector N. Ch. Rangaswamy.
