Giving a sense of security and comfort to women commuters, She Taxis will become operational in the Hyderabad and Cyberabad areas from January 26.
The Committee on safety and security of women and girls in Telangana State has taken up a range of issues related to safety of women during travel including modalities for operating She Taxis, one of the recommendations of the committee.
In the wake of Uber cab incident in Delhi, the committee members led by senior official Poonam Malakondaiah insisted on precautionary measures so that such incidents would not recur here. While the Transport Commissioner banned Uber service for operating without registration here, the department should keep tabs on the services offered by other cab agencies as well, they said.
In view of the increasing incidents of crime against women travelling by auto-rickshaws without proper licences, a decision was taken to regulate the auto-rickshaws and establish a link between the owner and driver and hold both of them responsible in the event of a crime, sources said.
The committee which recommended “separators” in RTC buses plying in the city would take independent feedback from commuters. Of the 2,600 RTC buses in city, separate enclosures were provided for women in 500 buses.
