Thirty-nine-year-old Moula Ali resident M.A. Raheem did not anticipate public embarrassment at one of the city’s busiest junctions when he allegedly sent lewd text messages to a married female relative.
Raheem was convicted for outraging the modesty of a woman and sentenced to stand at Gun Park holding a banner that reads “Stop Eve Teasing” till Monday evening.
He was arrested by the SHE Teams after the relative approached the police along with her husband. She claimed that Raheem sent her abusive messages and harassed her on call. She was forced to repeatedly change her SIM cards which proved of no avail as Raheem managed to get her number every time she evaded him.
Vexed, she shut off her phone, but that did not end her torment.
He began frequenting her neighbourhood and also called her family members, including her husband, asking to speak with the victim. His actions allegedly led to marital trouble, forcing the victim to seek marriage counselling.
Based on advice from counsellors, the victim sought the help of police.
SHE Teams nabbed Raheem and booked a petty case against him as the victim was not ready to charge him under law. He was convicted for the offence and sentenced.
