Nod for Rs. 14,350 crore works of Palamuru LI scheme

The Government of Telangana has given administrative sanction for the first phase works of the Palamuru-Ranga Reddy lift irrigation project with an estimated cost of Rs. 14,350 crore and water grid project works in 14 segments (sub-grids) with a cost of Rs. 1,518.52 crore.

Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao signed the files concerned before he left for Delhi on Thursday. According to officials, a report was submitted to the government by the authorities of water grid project on the 26 sub-grids in nine districts.

The works which were given administrative sanction include construction of intake wells, water treatment plants, raw water pumping mains and high-tension power supply.

The Irrigation Department has already allocated 39.272 tmcft in Krishna and Godavari basins to the water grid project in tune with the State government’s decision to utilise 10 per cent water in all irrigation projects for drinking needs.

As part of the Palamuru-Ranga Reddy lift irrigation scheme, the first phase works include utilising 70 tmcft from the Jurala reservoir till Koilakonda. The administrative sanction to first phase works was given based on the proposals submitted by the irrigation authorities after conducting a survey. The project is aimed at irrigating 10 lakh acres lands in three districts by lifting Krishna water besides providing drinking water.
