More categories of teachers can vote in MLC polls

Teachers in model schools and Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas (KGBV) across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana are now eligible to exercise their franchise in the MLC elections.

In a press release, on Wednesday evening, Chief Electoral Officer, Bhanwarlal said governments of the two States had made amendments including the institutions, not lower in standard than that of Secondary School. Hence, these teachers were eligible to enroll as voters.

The eligibility includes that they be a citizen of India and ordinarily residents in the Teachers’ Constituencies going to the polls. Within six years immediately before the qualifying date of November 1, 2016, they should have been teaching in these institutions for a total period of three years, the notification said.

All such eligible teachers can submit their applications in Form-19 till February 10 in person or online at www.ceoandhra.nic.in or www.ceotelangana.nic.in , the release added.
