The Indian Institute of Technology – Hyderabad (IIT-H) will be part of several Indian institutes that are forging tie-ups with Japanese educational institutions.
Yuichiro Anzai, former president of Keio University and a leading figure in the Japanese academic arena exchanged ideas with Uday B. Desai, Director of IIT, Hyderabad, on Tuesday regarding faculty and student exchange programmes between the IIT-H and Japanese universities. During the visit, which is organised by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Mr. Anzai is expected build a road map for promotion of faculty and student exchanges that would lay down the groundwork for further collaboration between the two nations like Ph.D./Master guidance by joint faculties, joint research project and tie-up with Japanese industries.
As part of “early-harvest” of initial efforts from both sides, the joint research project titled “Information Network for Disaster Mitigation and Recovery” will be launched as early as July 2010, according to a press release. This interdisciplinary project will bring together researchers from various research institutes and universities in India and Japan, with IIT-H and Keio University as nodal institutes.
